Dr. Katie Singer, PhD, MFA
I have long been a writer, working on creative and academic projects alike. My fiction and creative non-fiction writing deals with interpersonal relationships, ideas of love and partnership, and how people get where they are.
My scholarly work includes African-American studies, oral history projects, and urban activist history. In 2017, I received my PhD in American Studies from Rutgers University-Newark. My dissertation, on the Krueger-Scott African-American Oral History Project, is part of ongoing public scholarship highlighting stories of the Great Migration and political activism in Newark, New Jersey and around the country. My book, based upon this research will be out in 2023.
I draw on this academic background in my activist work, as well. I am involved in various political and social justice organizations around immigration justice, Black Lives Matter, and the election of progressive candidates.
